Wharf location, parking and facilities
Getting to the Tryphena Wharf
Address: Tryphena Wharf, Tryphena Bay, Great Barrier Island
Tryphena is situated on Great Barrier at the southern end of the island and is a four-and-a-half-hour ferry trip from the Hamer Street terminal, in Auckland City’s Wynyard Quarter district. There's no public transport on Great Barrier; however, you can pre-book a shuttle if travelling by foot and we recommend you do this in advance.
Parking
There is no long-term parking at Tryphena Wharf. Limited short term parking is available.
Wharf facilities
There's no ticketing office; however, there's an undercover waiting area for passengers to wait for the ferry and a wheelchair-accessible toilet.
Travelling with my bike
Yes; you can travel with your bike for a small fee. Check out Baggage, bikes and pets. A crew member will advise you where to park it for the duration of the sailing.
Checking in
If you're on your return journey or have made an off-island ferry booking you can remain in your vehicle and one of our crew members will greet you at your car and check you in.
If you don't already have a pre-purchased ticket, the crew will be able to sell you one. Payment can be via EFTPOS or by credit card.
To secure a space on our ferry, we recommend you book in advance as vehicle spaces can be full. All passengers and vehicles travelling to/from Great Barrier Island with vehicles should report a minimum of 60 minutes prior to departure. Passengers travelling without a vehicle (foot passengers) should report a minimum of 30 minutes prior to departure. Due to loading requirements, boarding will close 20 minutes prior to departure for vehicles and 15 minutes prior for foot passengers. SeaLink reserves the right to deny boarding after this time.
Driving my vehicle on the ferry
If you're travelling from Great Barrier Island then you'll need to reverse your vehicle on to the ferry. If for some reason, you cannot reverse your vehicle then our friendly crew can assist.
Unaccompanied children
Passengers under 14 years old or those regarded as too young (or not fit to travel alone) must be accompanied by a responsible person at least 14 years or older. We may require the parent/guardian to complete an 'Unaccompanied Minor Application for Travel' form before travel will be allowed.
