Information for passengers with reduced mobility and vision starting from 4 November 2024

SeaLink welcomes all passengers and is committed to making your journey as safe and comfortable as possible.

Where passengers have reduced mobility or vision there may be a limitation with the service and facilities that we can provide due to the design and construction of our vessels. Passengers with reduced mobility and vision may find it helpful to travel with a companion to assist during the voyage.

To comply with safety requirements if you have mobility or visibility issue you may need to travel with a companion who is able to assist you during the voyage and in case of an emergency. We reserve the right to require this of passengers in circumstances where the safety of our passengers, crew and vessels could be compromised. When booking with us, please notify us of this to ensure your travel can be completed in accordance with health and safety requirements. Our aim is to ensure the least amount of disruption and restriction for passengers.

At check in please make our customer service team aware of accessibility issues so they can liaise with the crew. If you are in a vehicle, our team will do their best to put you in the best possible spot for access to bathrooms on the deck.

Please note that some vessels are not equipped with accessible bathrooms.

Assistance Dogs

Certified service dogs are allowed on board and are considered a companion. You will be responsible for the welfare of the dog at all times.

Certification is accepted from these organisations:

  • Assistance Dogs New Zealand Trust

  • Blind Low Vision New Zealand

  • K9 Medical Detection New Zealand

  • Hearing Dogs New Zealand

  • NZ Epilepsy Assist Dog Trust

  • Mobility Dogs

  • Perfect Partners Assistance Dogs Trust

  • K9SEARCH Medical Detection NZ

To prepare your dog, please ensure the dog wears an identification tag with the owner's name, address and telephone number.

If you are travelling to Great Barrier Island you will need to prepare your dog for the journey by exercising and limiting its fluid intake for several hours before boarding the ferry.

Dangerous Goods Sailings

Dangerous goods sailings are sailings which we are carrying potentially hazardous materials like gas or petroleum. These sailings are marked in our timetable with (DG)

As all passengers must leave their vehicles on dangerous goods sailings, if your mobility would inhibit you from moving up to our cabin you will not be able to travel on those sailings unless you are able to move from your vehicle to the cabin, either without assistance or with assistance from your companion.
