Charters

Vehicle and passenger ferries

Moving a house, fuel, livestock, luxury yacht, organising a wedding, school group or conference? Why not charter your next event at sea.

Charters are available within the inner Hauraki Gulf and are particularly popular with large groups, schools travelling to Motutapu or Motuihe (pest free) and for companies needing to move large amounts of machinery or equipment.

Vehicle ferries

There are three main vehicle ferries available for charter:

Seabridge, Seamaster and Seaway. Seabridge operates from Wynyard Quarter, Auckland City; Seamaster from Half Moon Bay; and Seaway from either terminal. Passenger and vehicle numbers vary between ferries; see our ferries for further details.

As our largest ferry and flagship of our fleet, Seacat is also available for charter around her Waiheke Island schedule, depending on requirements. This vessel can transport a maximum capacity of 50 cars and 400 people. See below for a list of accessible destinations and wharves:

Waiheke Island - Kennedy Point

Great Barrier Island - Port Fitzroy, Karaka Bay, Tryphena, Whangaparapara

Other islands of the Hauraki Gulf - Kawau, Tiritiri Matangi, Rakino, Motutapu, Motuihe

Passenger ferries

There are four ferries available to charter ranging from 48 to 98 seats.  These fast manoeuvrable ferries provide an economical alternative for corporate groups, wedding parties, schools and island events.

Prior to departure you can theme the ferry to create the right atmosphere with live music or entertainment to suit any occasion. A range of quality bar and catering options is available.

These ferries can access most wharves and private jetties. See below for a list of accessible wharves:

Waiheke Island - Pearl Bay, Waikopou Bay, Cowes Bay, Orapiu, Man O War Bay, Whites Bay, Matiatia Wharf

Other areas of Hauraki Gulf - Te Kawau Bay, Ponui Island. Islington Bay, Motutapu Island. Motuihe Wharf. Rakino Wharf. Hurakia Wharf, Rakino Island. Northcote Point, Devonport Wharf, Torpedo Bay.

Charter on SeaLink ferry for super yacht from Hobsonville

Houses, yachts & heavy equipment

If you need to move a house, yacht or heavy equipment such as roading vehicles you will need to charter either the Seamaster or Seabridge ferries.  These ferries can carry heavy loads. If you are moving steel tracked vehicles (diggers, bulldozers, excavators etc) they must travel on a trailer, as steel tracked vehicles are not permitted on the decks of any of the SeaLink ferries. These ferries have wide open decks and Seamaster has the lowest bow. Depending on the size house you are moving it will need to be lifted on the trailer up and over the bow to be transported.

Treasure Islands

If you are thinking of chartering a ferry to one of the following destinations you will be travelling to one of the 'Hauraki Gulf Treasure Islands' and biosecurity standards will apply - Rangitoto, Tiritiri Matangi, Motutapu, Motukorea/Browns, Motuihe, Kawau, Rakino, Pakatoa, Ponui and Rotoroa.

The 'Treasure Islands' campaign is a joint initiative between DOC and Auckland Council to help protect conservation islands in the Hauraki Gulf. There's plenty to love about Auckland's awesome island treasures, from sea birds to tuatara and takahē. The campaign ensures we all play our part to guard these special places.

SeaLink holds Pest-free warrants showing we have met DOC and Auckland council's biosecurity standards for all of our vehicle and passenger ferries. Read more on how to help keep our Hauraki Gulf islands pest-free.
